My name is Senga White and I’m currently the library manager at James Hargest College, a Year 7-13 school in Invercargill, New Zealand.  James Hargest College is a two campus school with two libraries which has a combined roll of close to 2000 students.

My work is my passion! I love to match readers to books they’ll fall in love with.  I also love working with classes, groups and individuals, teaching them about information literacy and research skills.

My other passion is to work towards ensuring quality libraries in every school in New Zealand, staffed by equally passionate, enthusiastic library staff who love working with children and teenagers.  This is why I have been a member on the National Executive of SLANZA (School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) since 2006 and am immediate past president.  My philosophy is it’s all about collaboration and putting your “money where your mouth is!”

I am also the schools’ representative on the EPIC Governance Group (EGG). EPIC (Electronic Purchasing in Collaboration) is the national e-licensing initiative that makes a package of electronic resources available to all New Zealanders through libraries who are consortium members. The EPIC Governance Group (EGG), comprising ten library sector representatives, is responsible for the strategic direction of EPIC and guides the operation of the consortium.

I’d love to hear from you so please feel free to comment on any of my blog posts, or if you’d like to make contact, email me or find me on twitter.
